Peter Larr Student Civic Achievement Award

Each year the League of Women Voters of Rye, Rye Brook & Port Chester presents a Student Civic Achievement Award to a junior who lives in or attends a high school in the City of Rye (including Holy Child), Villages of Rye Brook and Port Chester, or the Rye Neck section of the Town of Rye, in recognition of the student’s overall contributions to his or her school and community in the areas of civic engagement, advocacy, leadership or voter education.

The criteria for the Student Civic Achievement Award are:

• Meaningful civic engagement, demonstrated through active participation and volunteer service in school and community organizations, committees, or boards; and/or

• A strong record of advocacy on behalf of causes that matter — political, economic, educational, civil, environmental, or related to quality of life; and/or

• Demonstrated leadership within school or community organizations, committees, or boards; and/or

• A genuine commitment to advancing voter education and engagement.

The recipient of the Peter Larr Student Civic Achievement Award will be selected by a subcommittee of the LWV Board members. The recipient will receive $1000.

The LWV distributes application forms to each local high school. Each student must submit a reference and a guidance counselor or a school administrator must sign off on the application. The award recipient will be honored at our June LWV Annual Meeting.
